DIALING IN THE DEEP

In the early days of telephony, submerged underwater cables were filled with the courteous voices of female operators but for the Art in the Open festival in 2020, I imagined a world where the grey seals, white sided dolphins and minke whales ran the switchboard.

Festival goers in Charlottetown, PEI encountered this piece while strolling along the water front. The piece played on a variety of radios placed along the path. I invited listeners to dive into the depths of the water until they were submerged in the ocean floor overhearing the switchboard of the sea.
