WAVELENGTHS is an ode to the adult lane swim. My friend and collaborator Katie McKay and I made this short film together for Nocturne 2013 and it was projected onto the east wall of Centennial Pool on a continuous loop for the duration of the event.
Katie and I are both avid swimmers and we would always swap stories about what we think about in the water. She thinks about her breathing, I sing songs in my head. We decided to reach out to other swimmers and find out what they think about, and why they swim at all. In the process we came to realize the true majesty of the pool where people can have private moments in a public space.
